Goodbye Merlot

Saying goodbye to Merlot, our 14-year-old Weimaraner who was with me from age 22 in the military through marriage, fatherhood, and everything in between. She was legitimately special.

I’m not sure I can imagine ever not having a weimaraner after getting my dog Merlot. Such a great dog.

I’ve grown rather attached to this sweetheart of a dog.

I love this dog! She keeps me sane. #weimaraner
Happy Birthday Merlot. 9 years - best dog I’ve ever had.

She’s a bit special, this one. #weimaraner

My dog is not doing well. Merlot is a 14 year old Weimaraner, and time is somewhat rapidly getting the best of her. I’m on a flight home, not looking forward to what I think may be some sad days in the near future.
We’ve been on borrowed time with her for a while now. She’s been such an amazing amazing dog. To think, I was 22, in the military living in Louisiana when I got her. She’s been with me through a lot.

We had to say goodbye to Merlot today, our dearly loved Weimaraner. She was with me over 14 years - starting a lifetime ago when I was only 22, and still in the military. The last few years have been hard for her, and old age finally caught up with her. I’m crushed.

Merlot was the best dog. I probably never deserved her. She was legitimately special.
I’m sort of a sad blubbering idiot tonight. I loved that dog so damn much. She was really special. But then again, aren’t they all? I hated to make the call, but she was withering away, and increasingly miserable.

I sure miss this pup. Best #weimaraner.

Still sad about my long time weim we lost last year. The big dogs always go too soon.
